Omnia Holdings Limited (Omnia) – an international, diversified group that supplies mostly chemicals, specialised services, technology and integrated solutions for the agriculture, mining, and chemical application industries – has been recognised by CFI.co (Capital Finance International) for its commitment to developing and implementing sustainable practices. Each year, CFI.co identifies individuals and organisations that contribute significantly to economies and add value for all stakeholders.

Omnia’s commitment to achieving zero harm, making a positive impact, and creating a better world, is reflected in its decision to incorporate the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (“SDG”) into its core strategic frameworks. The awards highlighted Omnia’s performance in sustainable practices, empowerment initiatives, and technology and innovation, noting improvements in emissions, carbon credits, renewable energy projects, oil recycling and water efficiency. Omnia’s strong governance, proactive stakeholder engagement and collaborative partnerships to accelerate its progress in terms of SDGs were recognised as indicators of the business’s commitment to shared value.

Seelan Gobalsamy, CEO of Omnia commented: “Omnia is proud to receive this award, in recognition of our commitment to expert execution of sustainable practices and initiatives throughout our value chain. Our approach to sustainability is deeply embedded across a growing number of facets within our business and aims to not only enhance our own impact but that of our customers too. We are consciously and progressively investing in technology, time and resources to ensure due respect and care for our natural environments. People are at the heart of everything we do and the upskilling and empowerment of individuals, both within and outside of our business, is a core tenet of our corporate stewardship.”

From a social impact perspective, initiatives such as the emerging farmer programme, which provides small scale farmers with a financial loan, technology solutions, technical skills, and knowledge to farm the land in the best manner possible, form a large part of Omnia’s social objectives, in converting emerging farmers into commercial, self-sufficient and profitable agripreneurs.

On the environmental front, Omnia’s commitment to minimising harm and increasing its positive impact has yielded commendable results with further investments being made towards achieving the group’s 2030 targets. Of note, R58 million has been allocated towards solar projects, which can supplement up to 40% of Omnia’s electricity requirements. While the efforts made to optimise cooling tower cycles at the Sasolburg plant, have yielded a 44% decrease in water discharged, this coupled with the 51 megalitres of recycled and reused water that omnia has managed to generate, speaks to the business’s devotion to protecting natural resources.
